Whenever your child brings home a less than acceptable report card from school, we know a parent’s natural response is to be concerned. “Why is my child struggling? Will my child have to repeat the grade? How can I help my child pay attention and stay motivated?”
These concerns escalate if your child is learning disabled, suffers from ADD or AD/HD, and is constantly punished for his or her behavior. As a parent, what can you do keep your child from failing?
That’s why the Character Center for Kids is here. We understand. The Character Center for Kids is a full service “academic” after school program for students Pre-K to 8th grade.
We work to produce change you can see and make a difference your child can feel – all in a caring, nurturing environment. Our goal is simple: to create a learning environment based on expectations in which every child expects to learn, achieve, and succeed in school through character building.
We've successfully worked with hundreds of children, all with different academic goals and challenges. We do not overcome learning disabilities - we are successful in working with children who have them.
We work individually with children to help them realize their full potential and achieve the most possible in the shortest amount of time.
Traditionally, we provide your child with the following academic support services:
- Tutoring – we work on increasing your child ’s academic performance through improved reading, writing, and math skills. All of our tutors are college students with a “B” average or better.
- Homework assistance – we assist your child in the understanding and accurate completion of assigned homework.
- Individualized study plans - we offer individualized plans of study and one-on-one sessions with teachers to ensure that your child is on track with current assignments.
- Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) preparation – we prepare students, who are age appropriate, for improved academic performance on the FCAT through subject mastery and confidence building.
- SAT/ACT preparation – we prepare students, who are age appropriate, for success on both the SAT/ACT tests.
In addition, the Character Center also provides the following child development services (not offered by other after school programs):
- Mentoring – we provide student mentoring for your child (someone he/she can talk to).
- Parent coaching – we help you communicate, motivate, and connect with your child better.
- Classroom shadowing – we observe and evaluate your child’s strengths and weaknesses through periodic classroom visitations.
- Recreational activities – we have on-site exercise programs that include aerobics, martial arts, basketball, and other activities to help promote fitness as part of a healthy lifestyle.
- Pre and post student assessment – we have tools to help measure the progress of your child before and after starting our program.
- Pre-career assessment surveys – we create a personality profile of your child to determine his/her interests in certain career fields.
- Health education – we educate children on proper hygiene and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
- Personal grooming services – we promote good hygiene for children by providing haircuts (for boys) and manicures (for girls).
- Mascot performances – we conduct live performances with Big-Headed Beaver© and his friends to reinforce positive character traits.
